Issues to Consider in Hosting a Church WebSite

There are many issues to consider when creating a church web site. We briefly describe some of these below. Check out our online articles also which give more detailed information.

  1. A Mission of the Church

We suggest the first requirement to produce a church web site is to view it as an important ministry of the church. While it is possible to start small, don't overlook the potential long-term impact of a well maintained church web site. Many people in today's society expect an organization to have an up to date web site. Churches should be at least meeting this need - but even more, using the power of the internet to reach out to the world.

  2. Purpose of the Church Web Site

Though it may seem obvious, the whole purpose of building a church web site needs to be considered. Do you want the web site to provide information only to members of the church? Or do you want to use it as an method of providing help and encouragement to the wider community? Do you wish to provide news on events happening at the church? We have found one of the most effective uses for a church web site is to provide sermons and teaching material. For example, providing text sermons means that people who wish to study the sermon can do so in their own time. This can also be extended to placing Bible Study notes online as well. Many people in remote locations or who are shut-in due to a variety of reasons, and others who do not attend church value listening to sermons.
